About A Simple Herstory + Declaration of Conscience in Conjunction with Tribeca
A Simple Herstory, the acclaimed podcast and genre-blurring performance project created by Jocelyn Kuritsky and written by Jonathan A. Goldberg, is presented as a special live radio play at The Tank in conjunction with the 2026 Tribeca Festival. Featuring a standout ensemble and directed by Meghan Finn, the presentation brings the podcast’s immersive audio storytelling to the stage with a segment from Season 2 exploring Senator Margaret Chase Smith’s historic stand against Joseph McCarthy during the Red Scare. Following the performance, audiences gather at Torn Page, the former home of actors Rip Torn and Geraldine Page, for a special conversation on A Simple Herstory and audio storytelling hosted by Carl Raymond, creator of the hit history podcast The Gilded Gentleman, with Jocelyn Kuritsky, Cecil Baldwin, and Donya K. Washington.

From Declaration of Conscience, w/ Margaret Chase Smith (MCS) & May Craig
MAY CRAIG: If I had any advice left to give, and Lord knows you won’t listen it’s this: McCarthy makes noise. All the politicians who achieved made a sort of noise. You don’t stand out.
MCS: I’m here at my desk aren’t I? Staying, late, standing on principle.
MAY CRAIG: Standing on principle. A conscientious objector. Objecting. But quietly in the back of the room. Waiting politely for someone to notice how politely you are waiting. But they never will.
MCS: I’m going to make a noise, May. If you only knew. It will knock your little gloves off. When I’m done you’ll eat a whole bowl of crow.
MAY CRAIG: Gladly. Why don’t we meet up for--
MCS: No. No. I’m far too busy.
Beat.
MCS: I’m done with you, May. You’ll see how wrong you are about everything. Don’t call me again.
